Start with the gutters you already have
A guard only helps when the gutter beneath it can carry water away. If your existing gutters are sound, properly pitched and sized for the roof, replacing the whole run to add protection can be unnecessary. Gutter Clean Pro is the retrofit option in our published ladder. It sits on compatible existing gutters, so the estimate starts with an inspection of the run, its fasteners, downspouts and outlets. The 5-inch installed rate starts at $18 per foot and the 6-inch rate at $20 per foot. That is a guard installation rate, not a quote for new gutter and downspout footage.
If a gutter is pulling away, holding standing water, leaking at the seams or attached to questionable fascia, the condition of that run has to be addressed before a cover goes on. A guard does not correct bad slope, a blocked underground drain, a crushed downspout or rotten wood. The call should surface those conditions early. We can talk through what you see, review photos, and identify what needs an on-site look before you commit to a system. This is why the lowest rate on the page is an entry point rather than a promise that every house qualifies for a retrofit.
The most useful first question is simple: do your gutters work when they are clean? If water still overshoots the edge with no leaves inside, the problem may be roof geometry, a valley concentrating water into one short section, an undersized outlet or a drainage problem below the gutter. Putting a fine screen on top without tracing where the water goes would leave the actual problem in place. Tell us where you see overflow and whether it happens in a hard downpour or ordinary rain. That distinction changes the recommendation.
- Sound existing gutters: consider Gutter Clean Pro retrofit.
- Sagging, leaking or badly pitched gutters: assess replacement before choosing a guard.
- Overflow on a clean run: diagnose roof and downspout capacity first.
When new gutters make more sense
T-Rex and DoublePro are integrated continuous hanger systems for a new gutter installation. Rather than adding a separate cover across the top of old gutters, the hanger and guard support the new run together. That support matters in a New England winter, when accumulated snow and ice can load a gutter along its whole length. Alu-Rex publishes the structural test results for each product; the figures are the manufacturer's, not a strength test StormRail ran on a customer's house.
T-Rex is the single-layer choice. Its published installed rate starts at $25 per foot for 5-inch gutters and $29 per foot for 6-inch gutters. DoublePro adds a second perforated aluminum layer to filter fine debris such as pine needles and seeds. Its installed rate starts at $30 per foot for 5-inch and $34 per foot for 6-inch gutters. For a home with heavy pine cover, the difference is the debris you need to stop, not a blanket rule that the highest tier belongs on every roof. A clear roofline with ordinary leaves may have a better fit lower in the ladder.
The gutter run, downspout footage and old gutter removal are different quantities on the estimate. Downspouts are billed by their own measured length at $14 per foot for the smaller size or $16 for 6-inch work; elbows are included in that downspout rate. Removal is $1 per foot where old gutter must come off. We keep those items visible because a two-story house with long drops cannot be priced honestly from horizontal roofline length alone. The house may also need a closer look at access, fascia or drainage before the final scope is set.
- T-Rex: new gutter and a continuous single-layer hanger.
- DoublePro: new gutter and dual-layer filtration for heavier fine debris.
- Downspouts and removal: measured and priced separately.
Why protection can still overflow in a downpour
Most guards look fine during a steady shower. A hard storm tests something different: water can arrive faster than a short section can accept it, especially below a roof valley. Leaves can mat on top of a cover, sending water over the front even though the inside of the gutter is empty. Pine needles may lodge in the openings of a single surface. On another house, the guard may accept the rain but the outlet or downspout cannot discharge it quickly enough. These failures look alike from the ground and have different fixes.
DoublePro uses two offset perforated layers. Alu-Rex describes a suction effect between them and a front edge intended to redirect overflow back toward the gutter. These are manufacturer design and test claims, not a guarantee that every roofline will handle every storm without water crossing an edge. The actual installation still needs appropriate pitch, placement, outlet size and a workable discharge route. A system chosen for pine needles does not replace drainage planning at the ground.
Before recommending a system, we ask where the overflow starts, what grows above the roof, whether the water sheets over one valley or a whole run, and what the downspout does at grade. A photo or short video during rain is useful if you have one. We do not need a four-hour living-room presentation to start that conversation. The published price gives you a real frame before the technical choices enter the picture.
How the quote works
Call the answered line or send the roofline and address through the site's quote form. We use the address to assess the layout, then confirm stories, tree cover, gutter condition and any complications the aerial view cannot show. Remote measurements are a first pass. They do not reveal soft fascia, a hidden outlet blockage, a ladder access problem or a change in elevation behind the house. Those items are stated as questions rather than quietly baked into an unexplained rate.
You can ask for both a 5-inch and a 6-inch price. The system rate is per foot of gutter and includes the new gutter, integrated guard and installation for T-Rex or DoublePro. The retrofit rate applies over sound existing gutters. Downspouts are a separate measured line because their total footage can be substantial, especially on taller houses. If removal is necessary, it is another visible line. We confirm the total and scope with you before any job is booked.
StormRail serves homeowners across New England with certified Alu-Rex installation. The first measurement, the paperwork and the phone are handled before anyone drives out; the person on the ladder is a certified installer. Service availability and timing for a specific address are confirmed during the call. A state being on our coverage list does not imply an office or completed project in every town in that state. Our legal business address is in Marlborough, Connecticut, and we do not claim a storefront in another town.
- Get the published per-foot starting rate before the call.
- Confirm roofline length, gutter condition, downspouts and access.
- Review an itemized scope and total before authorizing work.
Compare the warranty that belongs to the product
Each Alu-Rex product has its own written manufacturer warranty. DoublePro carries lifetime limited coverage for manufacturing, sturdiness and clog performance including coniferous areas, subject to the warranty terms. T-Rex has lifetime limited manufacturing and sturdiness coverage, while its performance coverage is a separate 25-year prorated limited warranty. Gutter Clean Pro's manufacturer's document describes lifetime limited manufacturing and performance coverage, including coniferous areas, without a separate sturdiness coverage line. These are not one universal warranty applied to every guard.
The written warranty and installation requirements control. Surface debris can still collect where wind cannot clear it; keeping the top surface clear where needed is different from removing debris from inside a gutter. Ask which product is on the quote and read that exact warranty before making the decision. We link the manufacturer documents from our Alu-Rex systems page so the terms are available without a sales appointment.
Our Alu-Rex systems page compares the full product family, including products that are not part of the three-price ladder. The priced selection here is deliberate: a compatible retrofit option, a supported new-gutter option, and the dual-layer new-gutter option. The point is to match a roof and its debris rather than stack features that the home does not need.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
