StormRail installs Alu-Rex gutter guards across East Hartford and nearby Hartford County towns. The cover for existing gutters, Gutter Clean Pro, is $18 per foot installed; new gutters with a guard start at $25. The line is answered around the clock, the price comes on the first call, and a certified installer does the work from your written plan.
Nearly half of East Hartford's housing units date from 1950 to 1969. If the gutters on yours still hang true, a cover over them is the least expensive fix we sell.
Backed by Wood & Wood Seamless Gutters, more than 30 years in the gutter business.
What East Hartford homeowners pay per foot, system by system
Start with the cheapest option and work up. Gutter Clean Pro covers the gutters you already own. It costs $18 per foot on 5-inch gutter and $20 on 6-inch, installed. Its two aluminum layers sit over the open top of the gutter, and the gutter itself stays where it is. For a house whose gutters are in decent shape, the conversation usually ends there.
Step up when the gutter itself is the problem: rust holes, seams that drip, a run that has dropped away from the roof edge. Then you replace the gutter and get the guard as part of it. With T-Rex, the hanger and the guard are one piece of aluminum running the whole length of the gutter, from $25 per foot for 5-inch or $29 for 6-inch. DoublePro adds a second perforated layer beneath, for needles and small seeds, from $30 or $34.
Two costs sit outside the gutter rate. Downspout is $14 per foot on a 5-inch system and $16 on 6-inch. Hauling the old gutter away is $1 per foot. Both appear as their own lines in the written quote, and both come from the same price list everyone gets.
There is a wind argument for T-Rex. The town tells roofers that East Hartford counts as a high wind zone, and a gutter held along its whole length has no gap between brackets to flex. If your gutters are due for replacement anyway, weigh that. If they are sound, the cover is the better value, and we will say so.
| Gutter Clean Pro | T-Rex | DoublePro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goes on | Your existing gutters | New gutters | New gutters |
| 5-inch | $18/ft | $25/ft | $30/ft |
| 6-inch | $20/ft | $29/ft | $34/ft |

East Hartford: roofs, river and snowmelt
The census puts the median East Hartford home at 1961, and about 46% of housing units were built between 1950 and 1969. On a house that age we ask two things before anything else: how old the gutters are, and whether a new roof is coming soon.
The roof matters because of the town's re-roof rules. East Hartford's Department of Permits and Inspections requires ice and water barrier on a re-roof from the eave edge to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line. It also rates the town a high wind zone, with a minimum of six nails per shingle. If a roofer is booked for the next year or two, tell us. Timing the gutters with the roof means the eave gets finished once.
Ice dams are the local worry. In mid-March 2026, snowmelt and rain swamped the paths and roads in Great River Park badly enough to close it, and a restoration company quoted by WFSB said it took hundreds of calls about ice-dam leaks in a single day. That count covers the region, not East Hartford alone. Whether a guard makes ice dams better or worse is its own question, and the ice dam page answers it.
The river shapes the town too. The Army Corps of Engineers built East Hartford's flood protection between 1938 and 1943, after the floods of 1936 and 1938: about 3.6 miles of earthen levee along the Connecticut and Hockanum rivers, protecting some 760 acres. The Corps' draft plan to rehabilitate the Hartford and East Hartford systems was open for public comment through May 17, 2026. Your gutters handle the small end of the same job, moving water off the roof and away from the foundation.
If your house is in the Naubuc local historic district, you need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic District Commission before altering an exterior feature visible from the public way. The town also has four National Register districts: Garvan-Carroll, Central Avenue-Center Cemetery, Downtown Main Street and Naubuc Avenue-Broad Street. The town's permit guidance does not address gutter work on its own, so ask the department before work starts. East Hartford has held Tree City USA status from 1996 on.
How much does it cost to put guards on existing gutters in East Hartford?
Gutter Clean Pro, our cover for existing gutters, is $18 per foot on 5-inch gutter and $20 on 6-inch, installed. Multiply by the length of your roofline and you have most of the number.
The rest depends on what else needs attention. A cracked or crushed downspout is priced per foot on its own line at $14, and so is any section of gutter that has to be replaced first. We measure the roofline remotely and read you the total on the first call, and nobody has to come to your house to sell it. If the gutters are too far gone for a cover, you hear that on the same call, with the new-gutter price beside it. The page on whether you need new gutters covers how we decide.
Which gutter guards tend to disappoint?
The ones that don't match the debris or the gutter. A coarse screen on a roof that drops needles lets them through, and the gutter fills underneath where you can't see it. A cover laid on a sagging gutter holds water in the low spot. A guard clipped to a gutter that is pulling off the fascia comes down with it.
So choose by the house. We ask what trees stand near the roof, how the gutters hang and how old they are, then name one system and tell you why. If rain runs over the front of a guard in a storm, the overflow page walks through the usual causes.
What are the trade-offs of adding gutter guards?
You pay more up front than a season of cleaning costs. On a house with few trees that may never pay back, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a cover. A guard also does not replace a look at the roof edge each spring and fall, because leaves can collect on top in a sheltered corner.
In East Hartford, add winter to the list. Snow and ice sit on a guard the same way they sit on an open gutter, and heavy snow is what pulls a tired gutter off the house. That is a reason to check the hangers before you cover them, and to replace the run if they are loose.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
Can you install on a house in the Naubuc historic district?
Yes, once the Historic District Commission has approved any exterior change it needs to see. Get the Certificate of Appropriateness first, and we plan the job around its conditions.
Should I do gutters before or after a new roof?
After, or at the same time. East Hartford re-roofs need ice and water barrier from the eave edge to at least 24 inches inside the wall line, and new gutter fits best against a finished edge. Tell us when the roof is booked.
What does the first call cost me?
Nothing. Call (617) 401-9301 at any hour. The roofline is measured remotely and the price is read to you on the call.
How much is the deposit?
No more than one third of the contract. The written quote shows the exact amount before you pay.
Who does the install?
A certified Alu-Rex installer, working from the same written plan you approved, with the system, the gutter size and your colors on paper before anyone sets up a ladder.
Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in East Hartford?
Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In East Hartford we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
