StormRail puts Alu-Rex gutter guards on South Windsor homes and throughout the surrounding part of Hartford County. Existing gutters in good shape take Gutter Clean Pro from $18/ft installed; replacements with T-Rex begin at $25/ft. Someone answers the phone at any hour, your price comes that day, and a certified installer fits the system from the written plan you approved.
South Windsor grew from farmland into a suburb, and about 70% of its housing is detached single-family houses. Each one has its own gutters and its own trees, and its own price, worked out per foot on one call.

Cover, hanger or two layers: choosing a system in South Windsor
The first thing we ask a South Windsor caller is how old the gutters are, because that sets the price band before anything else does. Sound gutters take a cover. Worn gutters get replaced with the guard built in. The rates are per foot, installed, and every caller hears the same ones.
The cover is Gutter Clean Pro, at $18 a foot for 5-inch gutter and $20 for 6-inch. Two layers of aluminum go over the top of your existing run. It suits a gutter that still holds its line, has tight seams and drains without standing water.
Replacement starts with T-Rex at $25 a foot for 5-inch and $29 for 6-inch. Its hanger runs the full length of the new gutter and doubles as the guard, so there are no spaced brackets to work loose. DoublePro, at $30 and $34, puts a finer second layer under the first. We raise it when a caller mentions needles or small seeds in the gutter. On DoublePro, Alu-Rex gives a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included.
Downspout is priced separately at $14 or $16 a foot, and removal of the old gutter at $1 a foot. A two-story house carries more downspout than a single-story one, so that line moves with the house. The whole list sits on the pricing page.
| Your gutters today | What we fit | 5-inch | 6-inch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sound, draining, no leaks | Gutter Clean Pro over them | $18/ft | $20/ft |
| Worn, sagging or leaking | New gutter with T-Rex | $25/ft | $29/ft |
| Worn, with needles or seeds | New gutter with DoublePro | $30/ft | $34/ft |
| Downspouts being replaced | Downspout, per foot | $14/ft | $16/ft |
South Windsor's two building booms, and its storms
South Windsor's population more than tripled between 1950 and 2000 as the town turned from farmland into a suburb. The census shows it in the housing. The 1980s is the single biggest building decade, with 2,413 units, and another 2,964 went up in the 1950s and 1960s. About 70% of the town's 10,272 housing units are detached single-family houses.
Those two eras call for different questions. A house from the 1980s may still carry the gutters it was built with. A house from the 1950s or 1960s may be on its second set, or its third. We ask, because the age of the gutter decides whether you pay the cover rate or the new-gutter rate.
Storms here bring trees down. When Tropical Storm Isaias came through in August 2020, it dropped numerous trees across South Windsor, some onto power lines, and at 10:30 the next morning 4,847 Eversource customers in town, 39.56%, were still without power.
The town is also taking down ash trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer, under an accelerated removal program, because it says dying ash will become very hazardous and fall over. If a dying ash stands over your roof, deal with the tree first. A falling limb bends any gutter, guarded or not.
In the northwest corner of town, the East Windsor Hill Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It covers about 535 acres of largely folk vernacular buildings from about 1700 to 1860, including Georgian, Federal and Greek Revival houses. On a house that old, pick a gutter color that suits it, and ask the town about any exterior review before work starts.
Permits go through the Building Department's OpenGov portal. The department wants plans, specifications and proof of workers' compensation with an application, books inspections three to four days ahead, does no same-day inspections and does not accept photos. Its permit page does not mention gutters, so check before work starts.
How much should gutter guards cost in South Windsor?
Count it per foot, installed. Our rates are $18 for Gutter Clean Pro over existing 5-inch gutter, $25 for new 5-inch gutter with T-Rex and $30 for new 5-inch gutter with DoublePro. On 6-inch gutter the same three are $20, $29 and $34.
Anyone quoting you should be able to break the total down the same way: feet of gutter, feet of downspout, and removal if any. Ours comes that way on the first call, built from a remote measurement of the roofline plus what you tell us about stories and trees. The written quote repeats it line by line, and the deposit on it is capped at one third. For a fuller walk through the numbers, see what gutter guards cost.
What is the most effective type of gutter guard?
Effective means two things: it keeps out what falls on your roof, and it sits on a gutter that can carry the water. For broad leaves, a single perforated aluminum layer usually handles the load, and that is what T-Rex has. Needles and small seeds call for a second, finer layer: DoublePro on new gutter, or Gutter Clean Pro on the gutter you have.
The gutter underneath matters as much as the cover. A cover on a sagging gutter holds a puddle in the low spot. A gutter that is too small, or drains to too few outlets, can still spill in a heavy storm. Most guards cope fine with a drizzle. Trouble starts in a downpour, and that is where gutter size and downspouts come in. The 5-inch vs 6-inch page covers sizing.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
Do I need a permit for gutter guards in South Windsor?
The Building Department's permit page does not mention gutters. Ask the department before work starts. If a permit is needed, inspections are booked three to four days ahead, with no same-day slots.
There is a dying ash near my roof. Should I wait?
Deal with the tree first. The town is removing ash infected by the Emerald Ash Borer because it says they become hazardous as they die. Once the tree work is done, we can price the gutters.
My 1980s house still has its original gutters. Can they take a cover?
If they still hang straight, drain and don't leak, yes: Gutter Clean Pro goes on top from $18 a foot. If they don't, we price new gutter with T-Rex from $25 a foot and tell you why.
How do I get a price?
Call (617) 401-9301 at any hour, or use the form on the home page. The roofline is measured remotely and you hear the price the same day. Nobody visits to sell.
When would the installer come?
In season, installs typically book four to six weeks out. The Alu-Rex material is ordered and confirmed first, so the date you are given is one that holds.
Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in South Windsor?
Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In South Windsor we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
