StormRail prices Alu-Rex gutter guards for Cromwell and the rest of Middlesex County on the first call. Gutter Clean Pro fits over sound gutters at $18 per foot. New gutters with T-Rex run $25 per foot, and with DoublePro $30. Someone picks up the phone at any hour. You approve one written plan, and a certified installer works from that same plan.

Cromwell sits on the Connecticut River, and a lot of its houses went up between 1970 and 1989. If yours still has gutters that hang straight, a cover may be all it needs. If not, we price new ones.

Backed by Wood & Wood Seamless Gutters, more than 30 years in the gutter business.

Keep your gutters or replace them: the Cromwell price list

Start with the gutters you have. Look along the front of the house from the driveway. If the run is straight, the seams are dry after rain, and the downspouts carry water away from the foundation, you probably do not need new gutters. You need something on top of them. That is Gutter Clean Pro: a two-layer aluminum cover that goes over a sound gutter, at $18 per foot on 5-inch and $20 on 6-inch.

If a run sags between hangers, drips at the corners or has pulled the fascia board with it, a cover will not fix that. Tell us what you see and we will price replacement instead. Here the guard comes built into the new gutter. T-Rex uses a continuous hanger with a perforated top, so one piece holds the gutter up and keeps the leaves out. It costs $25 per foot for 5-inch and $29 for 6-inch.

DoublePro puts a second perforated layer under the first. The lower layer catches what the top one lets past: needles, seeds and shingle grit. It costs $30 per foot for 5-inch and $34 for 6-inch, and it is the one to pick if a conifer hangs over the roof. DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included.

Two other lines can show up on a Cromwell quote. Downspouts are priced by the foot at $14 for the standard size and $16 for the larger one. Tearing out and hauling away the old gutters is $1 per foot. Your written quote shows each line, so you can see how the total adds up. The full price list is public, and every caller hears the same rates.

Cromwell houses, the river and the weather they share

Cromwell's housing has a clear center of gravity. Census figures count 2,722 of the town's 6,181 housing units, about 44%, as built between 1970 and 1989, and the median year built is 1976. We will not guess the age of your gutters from the age of your house. Plenty of those homes have had theirs replaced. So we ask on the call, and a photo from you settles it.

The town has an older layer too. About 15% of its housing was built in 1939 or earlier. Two National Register districts sit inside Cromwell: the Middletown Upper Houses Historic District, with seventy-two houses between Route 99 and the river, almost half of them older than 1820, and the Main Street Historic District, with 66 contributing buildings in styles from 1750 to 1935. On a house like that, tell us about the trim and the roof edge before we quote. The profile of the gutter matters more to the owner of an old house.

The Connecticut River forms the eastern edge of town. The riverfront sees freshets as the seasons turn, and Cromwell has lived through serious floods in March 1936, in 1955 after Hurricanes Connie and Diane, and again in 1984. Gutters do not stop a river. What they can do is carry roof water past your foundation instead of dropping it beside the cellar wall, and that is worth checking on any low lot.

For weather, the nearest long-record NOAA station with snowfall is Hartford Bradley, about 23 miles north. Its 1991–2020 normals for central Connecticut are about 47 inches of precipitation, 51.7 inches of snow and around 12.4 days a year with an inch of rain or more. Most guards cope fine with a drizzle. Trouble starts in a downpour, and this area gets about a dozen of them a year.

Cromwell adopts the Connecticut State Building Code, and its permit applications ask for the full value of the work, materials and labor included. Whether a gutter-only job needs a permit is a question for the Building Department at Town Hall, and we will plan around their answer.

On average, how much do gutter guards cost per foot in Cromwell?

We cannot speak for an average across other companies, because we have not surveyed them. We can give you ours. Installed, per foot of gutter, StormRail charges $18 for Gutter Clean Pro over existing 5-inch gutters, $25 for new 5-inch gutters with T-Rex and $30 for new 5-inch gutters with DoublePro. On 6-inch gutters the three rates are $20, $29 and $34.

Your total depends on how many feet of eave the house has, how many stories the downspouts drop, and whether the old gutters come off first. We measure the roofline remotely, from aerial imagery, so the number arrives on the call. Nobody sits in your kitchen to get there. For a longer look at what moves the total, read how much gutter guards cost.

What are the downsides of using gutter guards?

Three are worth knowing before you pay for one. First, a guard costs money, and a house with open sky above the roof may not need it. Second, leaves can still rest on top of a guard until wind or rain moves them, so you may see debris up there after a storm. Third, a guard cannot fix a gutter that pitches the wrong way or a downspout that empties into a clogged drain.

The fix for the third one is to look at the whole drainage path, not just the top of the gutter. If water spills over one corner every storm, the cause is often a valley or an outlet, and our page on why gutters overflow walks through what we look for. Winter questions come up too, and our page on ice dams covers them.

What is the number one gutter protection?

No single product is first for every house, and we would be wary of anyone who says otherwise. The right guard is the one that matches what lands on your roof and the state of the gutter underneath it. For a sound gutter under broadleaf trees, a cover like Gutter Clean Pro keeps what you already paid for. For a failing gutter, T-Rex replaces the gutter and the guard in one job.

Where needles fall, DoublePro is the system we point people to, because its lower layer stops debris that slips through a single screen. Each Alu-Rex system has its own written warranty, and the warranty page lists them side by side so you can compare the terms before you choose.

Call to install: every step

Three ways to start

  • Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
  • Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
  • Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
  1. Understand what you actually need

About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.

    • Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
    • Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
    • Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
    • Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
  2. Your plan, in writing

You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.

  3. A deposit capped at one third

Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.

  4. Material ordered and confirmed

Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.

  5. Scheduled with a certified installer in your county

A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.

  6. Installed

The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.

  7. After the install

We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:

    • Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
    • T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
    • DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas

Questions homeowners ask

Does someone come to my Cromwell house to give the quote?

No sales visit. Call (617) 401-9301, give us the address, and we measure the roofline remotely and price it while you are on the line. A certified installer comes to the house for the work itself.

My house is in one of Cromwell's historic districts. Can you still do it?

Tell us which district and send a photo of the roof edge. We will plan the gutter profile with the house in mind, and you can check with the town about any review the district needs before work starts.

Do I need a permit for gutters in Cromwell?

We have not confirmed that. Cromwell follows the Connecticut State Building Code, and its Building Department at Town Hall can tell you whether a gutter-only job needs a permit.

How much do I pay up front?

The deposit never goes above one third of the contract. Your written quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.

Can a guard go on 6-inch gutters?

Yes. Gutter Clean Pro over existing 6-inch gutters is $20 per foot. If you are deciding between sizes for new gutters, the 5-inch vs 6-inch page explains the trade.

Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in Cromwell?

Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In Cromwell we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
