StormRail prices gutter guards in Middlesex County by the foot on the first call: Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18, T-Rex on new gutters from $25, and DoublePro from $30. We answer the phone any hour. A certified installer working in the county fits the job from the written plan you signed off on. Connecticut sits inside our all-New-England coverage.
The Connecticut River runs along Middletown, Cromwell and Portland, and Meshomasic State Forest spreads across Portland and East Hampton. Water and trees are the two things these gutters deal with.

Towns we cover in Middlesex County
Needles from the Meshomasic, leaves everywhere else
Meshomasic State Forest, the first state forest in New England, now covers more than 9,000 acres, including parts of Portland and East Hampton. Its Big Pines plantation holds white pines and Norway spruce more than a century old. Needles are the hardest debris a gutter guard faces, because they are thin enough to slide through a coarse screen and then knit into a mat.
If conifers stand near your roof, DoublePro is the system to price first. Its second aluminum layer stops the fine material, and DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included. It costs $30 a foot on 5-inch gutters and $34 on 6-inch, installed with new gutters. Under mostly broad leaves, T-Rex from $25 often does the job, and sound gutters can keep a Gutter Clean Pro guard from $18. The pine needle question page goes further.
River towns, heavy rain and where the roof water goes
The Connecticut River forms the eastern edge of Middletown and Cromwell, and about half of Portland's perimeter. It floods. Tropical Storm Irene's rain in 2011 pushed the Middletown crest forecast to 15 feet against an 8-foot flood stage, the river flooded the Harbor Park boardwalk in July 2023, and after a December 2023 rainstorm WTNH reported Route 17A in Portland under water. Cromwell's riverfront has its own record of serious floods in 1936, 1955 and 1984.
A gutter guard does nothing about a river over its banks. What it can do is keep the gutters and downspouts open, so the water off your roof reaches the ground away from the foundation instead of spilling over the edge. The Hartford-area NOAA normals, from Bradley Airport about 23 miles north of Cromwell, show about 47 inches of precipitation a year and around 12 days with an inch or more of rain. Most guards cope fine with a drizzle. Trouble starts in a downpour, and those dozen days are when a clogged gutter shows it.
Older housing and the Middle Haddam rule
A lot of the county's housing is old. Census estimates date about 23% of Middletown's housing units to 1939 or earlier, about 17.5% of East Hampton's, and about 15% of Cromwell's; Portland's median home was built in 1961. Middletown has eight historic districts on the National Register, and Cromwell has two.
On an older house, the gutters may have been replaced once or several times, so we ask about their condition before suggesting you keep them. Sound gutters can take a Gutter Clean Pro guard. Tired ones come down for $1 a foot, and new ones go up with the guard built in.
East Hampton's Middle Haddam Historic District has a specific rule. Any exterior change visible from a public street needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before a building permit is applied for, and the Commission, not the homeowner, decides what counts as an exempt like-for-like replacement. If your house is there, we build the plan around the Commission's answer. Elsewhere, ask your building department about your job before the installer arrives.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
Do Middlesex County towns pay a different rate?
No. Every town pays the same per-foot rates, listed on the pricing page. Call (617) 401-9301 and we measure the roofline remotely and give you the number on that call.
Which guard handles white pine needles?
DoublePro. Its two aluminum layers stop needles that pass through a single screen, and DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty with pine needles included.
Is Middlesex County the edge of your service area?
No. Connecticut is part of our coverage across all of New England, so a house in Middletown or East Hampton gets the same process and prices as one anywhere else in the region.
Who does the installation?
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in the county. The installer works from the written plan you approved, with the system, gutter size and color already set.
