StormRail installs Alu-Rex gutter guards in Trumbull, including Nichols and Long Hill. Gutter Clean Pro goes over sound gutters from $18/ft. Where the gutter has to go, a new seamless gutter with T-Rex is $25/ft and with DoublePro $30/ft. You get the price on your first call, any hour, and a certified installer working in Fairfield County fits the plan you approved in writing.

Close to half of Trumbull's housing went up in the 1950s and 1960s. If the gutter on your house is still sound, the least expensive way to stop clearing it every fall is a guard fastened over the gutter you already own.

A guard on top, or a new gutter underneath: the Trumbull price list

Begin with the question that sets the price: can the guard go on the gutter that is already there? Gutter Clean Pro is a two-layer aluminum guard that fastens over an existing 5-inch or 6-inch gutter, fine enough to stop needles and seed pods as well as leaves. It is our lowest rate, $18 a foot over 5-inch and $20 over 6-inch.

The gutter has to pass three checks first. It should hold a straight line along the eave with no dips where water sits. It should empty fully at each downspout after rain. And its seams and corners should stay dry. A gutter that fails any of those will fail under a guard too, and we would rather tell you so on the call than sell a cover for a gutter with a year left in it.

When the gutter is past it, the new one goes up with T-Rex: a continuous aluminum hanger that carries the gutter along its whole length and doubles as the guard. That costs $25 a foot in 5-inch and $29 in 6-inch. DoublePro puts a second, finer layer under the T-Rex top for needles, seed and roof grit, at $30 and $34. DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included.

Downspouts are priced on their own, $14 a foot for standard and $16 for oversized, and hauling away an old gutter is $1 a foot. You can check every rate on the pricing page before you pick up the phone.

Trumbull's postwar houses, its river valley and the August 2020 storm

Census estimates count 12,800 housing units in Trumbull, and about 84% are single-family detached. The median one was built in 1965. The 1950s and the 1960s are the two biggest decades by far, close to 5,700 units between them, which makes the typical Trumbull house around sixty years old. Whatever its age, the first thing we ask is what shape your gutter is in.

The town sits between Bridgeport and Shelton, with Stratford, Fairfield, Easton and Monroe on its other sides, and its history runs older than its housing. Nichols Farms, along Center Road, Huntington Turnpike, Priscilla Place and Shelton Road, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and the Long Hill Green dates to 1720. If your house is in or near either one, ask the town whether exterior changes need a look before work starts. We have not read Trumbull's rules on it.

The Pequonnock River is Trumbull's one major waterway. It starts northwest of Old Mine Park at the Monroe line and runs southeast through the Pequonnock River Valley State Park, Trumbull Center and Twin Brooks Park. The town keeps 871 acres of parks in all. Monitor Hill, also called Tashua Hill, rises to 615 feet, which the U.S. Geological Survey describes as the highest coastal point on the east coast.

The storm of August 4, 2020 showed how much timber stands over the town. At 2 p.m. that day United Illuminating counted more than 7,200 outages in Trumbull, about half the town, and First Selectman Vicki Tesoro put the share of residents without power at 47%. Limbs that take down a wire also land on a roof edge, and a gutter fastened with a spike every couple of feet is the first part of the house to give.

For normal weather, the nearest long-record NOAA station is Bridgeport Sikorsky Memorial Airport, about 7 miles southeast. Its 1991-2020 normals show 44.09 inches of precipitation, 33.6 inches of snow, 10.3 days with an inch or more of rain and close to 92 nights at or below freezing a year. Those are the airport's figures, not a reading taken in Trumbull. They still set the job a gutter does here: around ten heavy-rain days and a long freeze-and-thaw season every year.

How much do gutter guards cost in Trumbull?

On a sound gutter, Gutter Clean Pro is $18 a foot in 5-inch and $20 in 6-inch. A new seamless gutter with T-Rex is $25 and $29, and with DoublePro $30 and $34. Downspouts and removal are listed separately so you can see each one.

The total depends on the feet of eave, the number of stories and the trees around the house. We measure the roofline remotely, so you hear the number on your first call, and the cost guide shows how a typical total adds up.

When you go ahead, the deposit is never more than a third of the contract, and the exact figure is on your quote. You pay the balance once the install is complete.

Can a gutter guard go on my existing gutters?

Yes, if they are sound. Straight runs, clear outlets and dry seams are the test. Gutter Clean Pro is made for that case, and it keeps the gutter you already paid for in place.

If the gutter is sagging, rusting through at the seams or pulling off the fascia, a guard will not save it. Then we price a new seamless gutter with T-Rex, which replaces the hangers as well. The page on whether you need new gutters for guards goes through the signs.

What happens to a guarded gutter in a Trumbull winter?

An ice dam starts on the roof, where heat from the house melts snow that refreezes at the cold eave. A guard does not create that, and better attic insulation and ventilation are what cure it. What a guard does is keep the trough clear of leaves going into winter, so meltwater has an open path to the downspout.

There is more on the ice dam question page. If you have had ice dams before, mention it on the call so the plan accounts for it.

Call to install: every step

Three ways to start

  • Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
  • Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
  • Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
  1. Understand what you actually need

About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.

    • Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
    • Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
    • Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
    • Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
  2. Your plan, in writing

You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.

  3. A deposit capped at one third

Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.

  4. Material ordered and confirmed

Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.

  5. Scheduled with a certified installer in your county

A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.

  6. Installed

The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.

  7. After the install

We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:

    • Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
    • T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
    • DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas

Questions homeowners ask

Do I have to book an in-home estimate?

No. We measure the roof remotely and price it when you call (617) 401-9301. The first person at your door is the certified installer, coming to do the work you signed off on.

Do you cover Nichols and Long Hill?

Yes. Nichols, Long Hill, Trumbull Center and the rest of town all get the same per-foot rate.

Why start with Gutter Clean Pro in Trumbull?

Because it is the least expensive way to stop clearing a gutter that is still in good shape. If yours is not, we will say so and price T-Rex instead.

Do long, low rooflines cost more?

Every run is priced by the foot at the same rate, whether it is one long eave or several short ones. A taller house needs longer downspouts, and those are their own line, so the number of stories changes the total through the downspouts.

How soon can you do the work?

In season, jobs usually land four to six weeks after you approve. Material is ordered and confirmed before the date is set, so the date holds.

Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in Trumbull?

Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In Trumbull we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
