StormRail installs downspouts on Newington homes from $14 per foot, or $16 per foot on 6-inch work, with elbows and labor in the rate. They are a separate line from the gutter system. We answer any hour and price it the same day, and a certified installer working in Hartford County installs to the written plan you approved.
Newington's own town plan says drainage can be a challenge in parts of town. Your roof's share of that water leaves through the downspouts. We price them by the foot, elbows included, and plan where each one lets go.

What Newington's plan says about runoff
The town's 2020 to 2030 Plan of Conservation and Development puts it plainly: "Drainage issues can be a challenge in some areas of Newington. Much development in Newington occurred before knowledge of runoff dynamics was as evolved as it is today." The same plan says the town grew fast after World War II. Its housing table shows units rising from 4,972 in 1960 to 10,445 in 1980, more than double in twenty years.
The census tells the same story from the other side. The median Newington home was built in 1967, and 8,077 of 13,577 housing units, about 59 percent, went up between 1950 and 1979. A house from those decades may still drain through its original downspout layout, and that layout is worth a second look.
A 2025 Resilient Connecticut flood study for Berlin, New Britain and Newington lists Wilson Avenue at the Mill Brook crossing as a Newington priority flood site and models road flooding at Coles Avenue. That is brook and street water, and no downspout changes it. What you control is your own roof water, and where it lands.
Where your roof water should end up
A downspout has three jobs. It takes water out of the gutter at the outlet, carries it down the wall, and puts it on the ground far enough from the house that it does not soak back toward the foundation. On a lot of older houses the first two work and the third does not. The elbow at the bottom points at a flower bed, or the extension went missing years ago, or the spout feeds a pipe into the ground that nobody has checked in a long time.
On the call we ask where each downspout comes down now and what happens there in a heavy rain. Does water pool by the wall? Does the lawn wash out below one corner? Does the basement get damp on one side? The answers tell us where a run needs an extension to ground that falls away from the house, or a new position altogether.
If a downspout feeds an underground drain, tell us. We will not assume a buried pipe works. If it is crushed or blocked, a new downspout connected to it moves the overflow out of sight, and that is worse than a spout you can see.
- Where the spout comes down, and whether that spot makes sense for the roof above it.
- Where the water goes at the bottom, and whether the ground there falls away from the house.
- Whether a roof valley sends extra water to one short stretch that needs its own outlet.
Downspout prices in Newington
We price downspouts per foot of downspout, not per piece. The standard size is $14 per foot and 6-inch work is $16. Elbows are part of that rate, so an offset around a window or a hose bib does not add a charge. The footage follows the wall: a one-story ranch has short runs, and a two-story house has long ones, so the same length of gutter can need very different amounts of downspout.
Downspouts usually go in with a gutter system, and they appear as their own line next to it. Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters is from $18 per foot. New gutters with T-Rex start at $25 and with DoublePro at $30. Removing an old system is $1 per foot. The downspouts page covers the service in general, and the price list has every rate.
A gutter guard keeps leaves and twigs out of the outlet, so the downspout mostly carries water and the elbows stop jamming. It does nothing to the amount of water. Most guards cope fine with a drizzle. Trouble starts in a downpour, and in a downpour the downspouts carry everything the roof sheds.
| Line | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Downspout, standard | $14/ft | Elbows and labor included |
| Downspout, 6-inch work | $16/ft | Elbows and labor included |
| Removal of old system | $1/ft | Only where a run comes down |
The town's own spec, and permits
When Newington put out a Housing Rehab bid in July 2026 (Project 094-PI-25), the scope called for seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts on all eaves, with aluminum gutter guards on every newly installed gutter. That is a town-written spec for its own rehab work, and it pairs the same three pieces we price.
Newington's Building Department says a permit is needed before construction, alteration or repairs "other than ordinary repairs", and that permits are normally reviewed in 5 to 10 working days. The FAQ does not mention gutters or downspouts. Ask the department if you are unsure how it treats your job.
To get a number, call (617) 401-9301. The roofline is measured remotely, and the steps from that call to the install are set out below.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
How much do downspouts cost in Newington?
$14 per foot installed for the standard size and $16 per foot on 6-inch work, elbows included. The total depends on how many runs you need and how tall the walls are.
Can you move a downspout that dumps water by my foundation?
Yes. We plan each run's position and where it discharges, so the water lands on ground that falls away from the house instead of against the wall.
Do you replace just the downspouts, or the gutters too?
Either. If the gutters are sound, the job may be downspouts plus a guard on top. If the gutters are failing, the new system and its downspouts go in together as separate lines.
Will a gutter guard stop my downspouts from clogging?
It keeps leaves and twigs out of the outlet, which is where debris gets into a downspout. It does not reduce the water, so the downspouts still need to be the right size and in the right places.
What is the deposit?
It is capped at one third of the contract, and your written quote names the exact figure before you pay.
