StormRail installs Alu-Rex gutter guards on Needham homes. A new seamless gutter with T-Rex starts at $25/ft, DoublePro at $30/ft, and Gutter Clean Pro fits over sound gutters from $18/ft. Call any hour and the price is given on that call, with no sales visit. A certified installer working in Norfolk County does the job from the plan you approved in writing.
More of Needham's housing went up in the 1950s than in any other decade. Seventy years on, many of those gutters may not be the originals, and the question is whether the next set should come with the guard built in.
Backed by Wood & Wood Seamless Gutters, more than 30 years in the gutter business.
New gutter with the guard built in, or a guard on the gutter you have
When a gutter is near the end of its life, putting a guard on it only delays the bill. The usual signs are a run that sags between hangers, seams that drip, and spikes backing out of the fascia. If you see those, the choice that lasts is a new seamless gutter with T-Rex. T-Rex is a single continuous aluminum piece that carries the gutter along its full length and covers it, so the guard and the hanger are the same part. It is $25 a foot in 5-inch and $29 a foot in 6-inch.
If needles, seed pods or roof grit land on the house, DoublePro puts a finer perforated layer under the T-Rex top to stop them. DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included. It is $30 a foot in 5-inch and $34 in 6-inch.
Census estimates date 1,596 Needham housing units to 2010 through 2019, and an older house may have had new gutters since it was built. If yours drain to the outlets, sit straight and stay dry at the joints, keep them. Gutter Clean Pro fits on top for $18 a foot over 5-inch and $20 over 6-inch. A gutter that will not outlast the guard gets a new-gutter quote instead, and you hear why on the call.
New downspouts cost 14 a foot for the standard size and 16 for the larger one. Taking the old gutter off and hauling it away adds 1 a foot. Check any of it against the pricing page.
| System | Best for | 5-inch | 6-inch |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-Rex | Gutters due for replacement, under leaves | $25/ft | $29/ft |
| DoublePro | Gutters due for replacement, under needles or seed pods | $30/ft | $34/ft |
| Gutter Clean Pro | Newer gutters that are still sound | $18/ft | $20/ft |
Needham's housing, the river and the storms
Census estimates count 11,929 housing units in Needham, and about 74% are single-family detached. The 1950s are the town's biggest building decade, with 2,359 units, and close behind are 2,151 units from 1939 or earlier. The median year built is 1965. Needham is also still building: 1,596 units date from 2010 to 2019. That mix is why a Needham quote can go either way. A 1950s gutter that has been patched is often ready to come down, and a gutter on a 2015 house is often worth keeping.
The Charles River forms nearly all of Needham's southern and northeastern boundaries. The town borders Wellesley to the northwest, Newton and Boston's West Roxbury section to the northeast, and Dover, Westwood and Dedham to the south. Places within it include Needham Heights and the Charles River Village section.
Storms bring Needham trees down. During Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, Patch reported about 23 percent of NSTAR customers in Needham, about 2,814 households, without power on the Monday night, and at least a half dozen calls that day about trees falling into houses. A limb landing on a gutter hung from spikes can fold the whole run. A gutter held along its length by T-Rex has no single spike to rip out.
Historic review is narrow in Needham. The Needham Observer reported in June 2026 that the town has one Local Historic District, set up by a two-thirds vote of Town Meeting in 2024. It covers a single property, the 1779 Jonathan Kingsbury house, and it requires a design review of any expansion or renovation there.
The nearest long-record NOAA station is the Blue Hill summit in Milton, about 8 miles southeast and about 625 feet up. Its 1991-2020 normals show 53.27 inches of precipitation a year, 69.3 inches of snow, 14 days with an inch or more of rain and about 117 nights at or below freezing. Those are Blue Hill's figures from a summit, not a Needham measurement. Fourteen days a year with an inch of rain or more is the load a gutter in this region is built for.
How much are gutter guards in Needham?
In Needham, as everywhere we work, T-Rex with a new gutter is $25 in 5-inch and $29 in 6-inch, DoublePro is $30 and $34, and Gutter Clean Pro over existing gutters is $18 and $20. a foot installed. Downspouts and haul-away of the old gutter appear as separate lines on the quote.
The total depends on how many feet of eave the house has, how many stories, and what hangs over the roof. The roof is measured remotely, so the figure comes during that first conversation. The next person at your door is the certified installer, carrying the plan you signed.
Should I replace my gutters before adding guards?
Replace them if they sag, leak at the seams, pull away from the fascia, or have been patched more than once. A guard sitting on a failing gutter fails with it, and you pay twice. Keep them if they are straight, dry and draining.
If you are replacing anyway, a new gutter with the guard built in costs less than a new gutter now and a guard later, and it goes up in one visit. The question page on new gutters for guards walks through the signs.
Do 5-inch or 6-inch gutters suit a Needham house?
Many houses carry 5-inch gutters. A 6-inch gutter holds more water and suits a large or steep roof, a long run to one downspout, or a valley that dumps a lot of roof into one spot. Every system comes in both sizes, and the 6-inch rate is listed beside the 5-inch one.
If your gutters overflow in a hard rain even when they are clear, size is the first thing to look at. The 5-inch vs 6-inch page explains the trade.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
Does anyone come out to quote my Needham house?
No. Call (617) 401-9301 and the roof is measured remotely, so the price comes on that call. The first visit is the certified installer, there to fit what you approved in writing.
Is my Needham house in a historic district?
Probably not. The Needham Observer reported in 2026 that the town's one Local Historic District is the Jonathan Kingsbury house. If you are unsure about your own house, ask the town before work starts.
Do you work in Needham Heights?
Yes. The rate per foot is the same in Needham Heights, near the Charles River and everywhere else in Needham.
Why T-Rex for older Needham gutters?
Because a gutter that is due for replacement gets a new gutter and a guard in one part. The T-Rex rail holds the gutter along its whole length, with no spikes to work loose under wet leaves or snow.
When can the work be scheduled?
In season we typically book four to six weeks out. Material is ordered and confirmed before we give you a date, so the date holds.
Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in Needham?
Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In Needham we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
