For Mashpee houses under pines, StormRail suggests DoublePro: a new seamless gutter with a two-layer guard, from $30/ft. T-Rex starts at $25/ft, and Gutter Clean Pro fits over sound gutters from $18/ft. You get the price on your first call. A certified installer working on the Cape fits the job from the plan you signed.
Mashpee is a town of ponds and woods, surrounded by the pines and oaks that grow everywhere on this part of the Cape. Those trees shed into the gutters all year, and most Mashpee houses were built in the 1980s or later, so many still carry their first gutters.

Needles, leaves and the right guard for a Mashpee house
Pine needles are the problem most guards are worst at. A needle is thin and stiff, and it threads through a coarse screen or the gap behind a hood, then lies flat in the trough and catches everything that comes after it. On a Mashpee lot with pines over the roof, that is where we start the conversation.
DoublePro is built for it. It has a perforated top layer, and under it a second, finer layer that stops needles, oak catkins and shingle grit while still taking in water. The guard is also the hanger, one aluminum piece running the length of a new seamless gutter. DoublePro carries a lifetime clog-free warranty, pine needles included. It costs $30 a foot in 5-inch and $34 a foot in 6-inch.
If the trees near your roof are mostly oaks and the debris is leaves, T-Rex does the job for less. It is the same full-length hanger and guard without the fine layer, at $25 a foot in 5-inch and $29 in 6-inch. Both T-Rex and DoublePro come with a new gutter, so they suit a house whose gutters are tired, bent or the wrong size.
If your gutters are still in good shape, Gutter Clean Pro goes over them at $18 a foot for 5-inch and $20 for 6-inch. Good shape means the runs are straight, the seams are dry and the water reaches the downspouts. Many Mashpee gutters are 30 or more years old, so on the call we ask about yours before we price a guard for it.
Downspouts are priced on their own line at $14 to $16 a foot, and taking off an old gutter adds $1 a foot. Every rate is on the pricing page.
| What falls on your roof | System | 5-inch | 6-inch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pine needles, catkins, grit | DoublePro, new gutter | $30/ft | $34/ft |
| Mostly oak leaves | T-Rex, new gutter | $25/ft | $29/ft |
| Leaves, and the gutter is sound | Gutter Clean Pro over it | $18/ft | $20/ft |
What Mashpee's woods and newer houses mean for your gutters
Mashpee sits on the south side of the upper Cape. It borders Sandwich, Barnstable and Falmouth, and Nantucket Sound lies along its southern edge, with Waquoit Bay on the west and Popponesset Bay on the east. The town includes Mashpee Neck, New Seabury, Popponesset, Seabrook and Seconsett Island.
Like every town on the Cape, Mashpee is sandy soil, small ponds and inlets, ringed by native pines and oaks. It also holds a lot of woodland that has never been built on. The Quashnet Conservation Area is the largest tract of undeveloped forest on Cape Cod, and the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge takes in salt marshes, cranberry bogs, white cedar swamps and wide stretches of forest. A house near any of that has trees close to the eaves, and pines in particular drop needles in every season.
The houses are younger than in most Cape towns. Census estimates put the median Mashpee home at 1988. The 1980s are the biggest building decade, with 3,551 housing units, followed by the 1990s with 1,732 and the 2000s with 1,547. Only 264 units date from before 1940. About 70% of the town's 10,691 units are detached single-family, and another 1,277 are single-family attached, which is a bigger share than in the towns around it. For an attached house, the gutter usually runs past more than one front door. On the call we ask who else shares the run.
A gutter hung in the late 1980s has been through more than 30 Cape winters. Some are still straight and tight. Others have spikes backing out of the fascia, and a guard on top of those just adds weight. That is the question we settle first.
Wind is part of life here. On November 30, 2020, CapeCod.com reported a 62 mph gust in Mashpee at about 6:30 in the evening, in a storm that cut power to about 1,200 Eversource accounts in Harwich and some 550 in Centerville and Hyannis. Gusts like that strip leaves and needles off the trees and drop them on the roof all at once.
Most guards cope fine with a drizzle. Trouble starts in a downpour. The nearest long-record NOAA station is at Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis, in the town next door to the east. Its 1991-2020 normals show 44.70 inches of precipitation a year and about 11 days with an inch of rain or more. That is the airport's record, not a Mashpee measurement, but it is a fair picture of how often a gutter here has to take a hard rain.
How much are gutter guards in Mashpee?
Installed, per foot: DoublePro with a new gutter is $30 in 5-inch and $34 in 6-inch. T-Rex with a new gutter is $25 and $29. Gutter Clean Pro over your existing gutter is $18 and $20. Downspouts and removal show up as separate lines, so you can see what each part costs.
To get a total, we need the length of the eaves, the number of stories and the trees around the house. We measure the roof remotely, so the number comes on the same call, with no visit to sell you anything.
Do gutter guards work with pine needles?
Some do and some do not. Coarse screens and hood-style covers let needles through, and once a few needles lie in the trough the gutter starts to clog again. A guard needs openings small enough to stop a needle and still let the rain in fast.
That is the reason DoublePro has its second, finer layer, and the reason its warranty names pine needles. If your lot is mostly oaks, you may not need it. The pine needle question page goes into more detail.
Should I replace a 1980s gutter or put a guard on it?
Look at it after a heavy rain. If water spills over the front, drips from the seams or stands in a sagging stretch, the gutter is the problem and a guard on top will not fix it. A new gutter with T-Rex or DoublePro is the better buy.
If the gutter is straight and dry, keep it and add Gutter Clean Pro. We would rather tell you the gutter is fine than sell you one you do not need. The page on whether you need new gutters for guards has a short checklist.
Call to install: every step
Three ways to start
- Call (617) 401-9301. It is answered any hour, and a missed call gets called back.
- Send the short form on the home page with your street address, and your number lands in your inbox.
- Text or chat through the chat window on this site.
Understand what you actually need
About fifteen minutes on the phone: the length of the roofline, the number of stories and the trees around the house. The roofline is measured remotely, so nobody comes to the house to sell. You get your price the same day, from the published per-foot rates.
- Gutters still in good shape: Gutter Clean Pro goes over the gutters you already have, from $18/ft.
- Gutters that need replacing: new gutters with the guard built in. T-Rex (continuous hanger) from $25/ft, or DoublePro (two filtration layers) from $30/ft.
- Fascia that cannot be drilled: Hover Pro, quoted for your house.
- Complex rooflines, third stories and copper are quoted separately, and we say so on the call, never after arrival.
Your plan, in writing
You get a written quote and your StormRail plan: photos of your house, the system, the gutter size and your color choices. The certified installer works from that same plan, so you and the installer are never on different pages.
A deposit capped at one third
Massachusetts law caps a home-improvement deposit at one third of the contract. We hold to that in every state we work in. Your quote names the exact figure before you pay anything.
Material ordered and confirmed
Your Alu-Rex system is ordered through the Alu-Rex distributor and confirmed before an install date is set, so the date you get is one the material can meet.
Scheduled with a certified installer in your county
A certified Alu-Rex installer working in your area takes the job, and you get the date without chasing anyone. In season we're typically booking four to six weeks out. We'd rather tell you that now than promise you Tuesday and send whoever happened to be free. Emergency work — a collapsed run, active water in the basement — gets triaged ahead of the queue.
Installed
The installer fits the system on the plan you already approved. Any balance is due as your quote states.
After the install
We check in after the job is done. Each system carries its own written Alu-Rex warranty:
- Gutter Clean Pro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
- T-Rex: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance 25-year prorated limited
- DoublePro: manufacturing lifetime limited, clog performance lifetime limited, including coniferous areas
Questions homeowners ask
Why do you suggest DoublePro in Mashpee?
Because pines and oaks surround so much of the town, and needles get through coarse guards. DoublePro's finer second layer stops them, and its lifetime clog-free warranty includes pine needles.
Does anyone visit to sell before I get a price?
No. Call (617) 401-9301, and we measure the roof remotely and price it on the call. The certified installer comes to fit what you approved in writing, not to sell.
Do you work in New Seabury and Popponesset?
Yes. The per-foot rate is the same across Mashpee, from New Seabury and Popponesset to Mashpee Neck and Seabrook.
I share a gutter with the attached house next door. Can you still help?
Yes. Tell us on the call that the run is shared. The gutter and guard work best when the whole run is done at once, so it helps if both owners agree first.
Do I need a permit for gutters in Mashpee?
We have not read Mashpee's permit rules, so we cannot say. Check with the town before work starts, and we will plan around what they tell you.
Do you install gutter covers, gutter screens or leaf guards in Mashpee?
Yes. Gutter covers, gutter screens, leaf guards and gutter guards are names for the same job: keeping leaves and needles out of the gutter. In Mashpee we install Alu-Rex Gutter Clean Pro over sound gutters from $18 a foot, or a new seamless gutter with T-Rex from $25 or DoublePro from $30.
